Our mission: advancing social justice through powerful storytelling

Inti Media is a nonprofit, Latine-led newsroom and documentary production hub in Philadelphia. Through journalism, podcasts, and documentaries published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, we illuminate the stories of Latine, Black, and Brown communities—nuestras luchas, nuestras victorias, nuestra comunidad (our struggles, our triumphs, our community).

We use community-centered storytelling to shift narratives, build collective power, enhance civic participation, and promote racial justice and gender equity. We cover the issues that matter most, including affordable housing, economic opportunity, public safety, education, motherhood and reproductive justice, immigration, and culture—turning every story we illuminate into a spark for change.

Our story

Inti Media was founded in 2024 in Philadelphia, inspired by Inti Wasi, a grassroots community center in São Paulo, Brazil, created by Carmen and Aglas de Watson to provide human rights services and cultural activities for Peruvian immigrants.

Gabriela Watson-Burkett, their daughter, discovered her passion for media growing up in Brazil, inspired by independent films that positively portrayed Black and working-class communities. After completing an MFA in Film at Temple University and working 20 years in the media industry, Gabriela founded Inti Media to continue her family’s legacy through storytelling.

“Inti Wasi” means “home of the sun” in Quechua, reflecting our commitment to illuminate stories that celebrate culture and advance racial and gender equity.
