Our  Mission: Advancing social change through storytelling

Inti Media is a nonprofit, Latine-led newsroom and multimedia production hub in Philadelphia. Through journalism, podcasts, and documentaries published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, we highlight the stories of Latine, Black, and Brown communities in Philly and beyond.

We use community-centered storytelling to shift narratives, enhance civic participation, and promote racial justice and gender equity. We cover issues that directly affect our audiences, including economic opportunity, housing, public safety, education, reproductive justice, immigration, and culture. Every story we illuminate can be a spark for change.

Our History

Inti Media was founded in 2024, inspired by a grassroots community center in São Paulo, Brazil named Inti Wasi, created by Carmen de Watson and Aglas de Watson to provide human rights services and cultural activities for Peruvian immigrants.

Their daughter, Gabriela Watson-Burkett discovered her passion for media growing up in Brazil, inspired by independent films that portrayed Black and working-class communities in a positive light. After 20 years in the media industry, Gabriela founded Inti Media to continue her family’s legacy through storytelling.

“Inti” means “sun” in Quechua, an Indigenous language of Perú, reflecting our commitment to illuminating stories that celebrate culture and advance equity.
